Cascade Engineering CEO to Keynote International Conference on Energy and Environment

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan, June 9, 2005 – Cascade Engineering chairman and chief executive officer Fred Keller will deliver a keynote address at the eighth annual Multi-State Working Group (MSWG) on Environmental Performance on June 21, 2005 at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids, Mich. Keller will speak on the topic of how companies can implement sustainable business practices that maintain corporate growth while making a positive impact on the environment and the communities they serve.

The conference, titled “Eco-Innovation 21: The Local/Global Imperative”, will bring together business, government, and academic leaders from around the United States and at least eight foreign countries to examine environmental policy and practice, the importance of energy as a factor in environmental quality, and innovative approaches to implementing sustainable practices in the public and private sectors. Other topics will include environmental policies in China, investor decisions and the environment, innovative permitting, the future of environmentalism, and foreign ownership issues. The June 20-22 event will feature more than 90 presenters, including Vijay Vaitheeswaran, world energy and environment correspondent for The Economist and author of “Power to the People”, and will be hosted by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality with support from the Environmental Protection Agency.

“Cascade Engineering has taken a national leadership role in implementing environmentally sound practices that also promote corporate and economic growth,” said John Kowalski, Cascade Engineering marketing manager. “We are pleased to have this opportunity to share our perspective and experience with this important gathering of policy and decision makers in West Michigan.”

“Our conference theme suggests that innovation and collaboration are not optional if we are to meet today’s economic and environmental challenges,” said MSWG president Robert D. Stephens, Ph.D. “Fred Keller is a strong advocate for this viewpoint, and we welcome his remarks and participation in this year’s MSWG conference.”

For more than 30 years, Cascade Engineering has emphasized sustainable business practices, investing equally in social, environmental and financial capital. The company has received numerous environmental stewardship awards, including several Clean Corporate Citizen Awards from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. In February, Cascade Engineering received an Environmental Stewardship Award from the Society of Plastics Engineers at the 2005 Global Plastics Environmental Conference in Atlanta. The company is also at the forefront of evolving U.S. manufacturing policy: in June 2004, Fred Keller was named to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s prestigious Manufacturing Council.

About MSWG: The Multi-State Working Group on Environmental Performance (www.mswg.org) was established in 1996 as a small, informal affiliation of regulators, businesses, environmentalists, and scholars focused on studying environmental management systems (EMSs) and their potential to achieve environmental results. Today, MSWG is a network of more than 800 participants in the United States and 12 countries. It is a forum for determined change agents from all sectors who respect each other’s views and want to go environmentally further than we are today.
