Cascade Engineering Aids Recycling Efforts in El Salvador

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan, January 26, 2005, - The town of San Jose Villanueva, El Salvador has resolved to become a cleaner, more environmentally friendly place in 2005, thanks to 2,100 recycling bins donated by Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Cascade Engineering.

Cascade Engineering coordinated and made the donation in conjunction with Epilogos Charities, a non-profit organization that seeks to bring lasting relief to victims of poverty through education, leadership training, and community development. The 18-gallon recycling bins, along with donated clothing goods, dental equipment and other supplies, arrived in El Salvador earlier this month.

“Cascade Engineering’s sustainable business philosophy extends beyond the local West Michigan community and we’re happy to help out with these bins,” said Mike Lobbestael, Cascade Engineering vice president of Industrial Solutions. “This donation is a way for us to help an impoverished village improve their living conditions, waste disposal and removal. It’s good for the environment, but more importantly, it’s good for the residents of San Jose Villanueva.”

According to Epilogos Charities, waste removal and health issues are a major problem in the village and surrounding areas, and these bins will result in a dramatic decrease in diseases caused by festering garbage and other waste.

Denny Williams, president of Epilogos Charities said, “With the full collaboration of the mayor’s office, local community development groups, medical and educational experts and our Epilogos team, we hope to rid the village of garbage and help improve the overall health of the community.”

For over 30 years, Cascade Engineering has emphasized sustainable business practices, investing equally in social, environmental and financial capital. The Company has received many environmental stewardship awards, including several Clean Corporate Citizen Awards from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. In February, Cascade Engineering will receive an Environmental Stewardship Award from the Society of Plastics Engineers at the 2005 Global Plastics Environmental Conference in Atlanta.
