Cascade Engineering Founder and CEO
Honored with Goodwill Award
GRAND
RAPIDS, Michigan, November 10, 2004, - Goodwill of Greater
Grand Rapids awarded Cascade Engineering founder and chief
executive officer Fred Keller the Lauren Wondergem
Distinguished Business Partner award at its first ever
“Power of Work Awards” ceremony on Nov. 4. The award honors
a local company that contributes to Goodwill’s mission to
help people overcome barriers to employment.
“Goodwill
of Greater Grand Rapids has played an integral role in
making our welfare-to-career program a success. I will
always be a strong proponent of the work this invaluable
organization does in our community,” said Keller. “Over the
years, Cascade Engineering has remained committed to
involving each of our employees, and the West Michigan
community, in improving the working environment through
diversity, opportunity and attention to the issues we face
as a society.”
This isn’t
the first award Keller has received from Goodwill. In 2002,
he was recognized as the “Large Employer of Year” by
Goodwill Industries International.
Cascade
Engineering is well known for its sustainable business
practices, emphasizing three key components as fundamental
to their long-term success. The Company invests equally in
social, environmental and financial capital, with the social
component of their effort focused on the employees of
Cascade Engineering, their families, and the surrounding
community of West Michigan.
Daniel Thue,
a former Goodwill participant who mentors others on how to
overcome obstacles and find stable employment, was awarded
the first Tina Hartley-Malivuk Outstanding Participant Award
that same evening.
Both awards
are named for two former presidents of Goodwill Industries.
Lauren Wondergem was Goodwill International’s first
president. Tina Hartley-Maliyuk was Goodwill of Greater
Grand Rapids’ most recent president who died in a car crash
last August. These awards were created in memory of their
dedicated efforts to carry out Goodwill’s mission.
