Cascade Engineering CEO Promotes Sustainable Supply Chains at Environmental Conference

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan, February 18, 2004 – Cascade Engineering founder and chief executive officer Fred Keller spoke yesterday at the 2004 Herman Miller Environmental Conference in Spring Lake, Mich. The fifth annual conference focused on the impact suppliers can have when supporting their corporate customers’ environmental sustainability efforts.

Along with Fred Keller, the event featured several nationally recognized sustainability experts including Dr. Michael Braungart, founder of the Environmental Protection Encouragement Agency in Hamburg, Germany, and William McDonough, an internationally renowned designer and one of the primary proponents of sustainable product, facility and environmental development.

“Solid environmental practices are necessary at all levels of the supply chain,” said Keller. “Cascade Engineering has always been committed to building a sustainable business by investing in our employees, our community and the environment. We applaud and support manufacturing partners, such as Herman Miller, for their ongoing environmental efforts, their willingness to lead their industry in environmental product design, and their dedication to continuously improving all aspects of the product supply chain.”

Paul Murray, corporate environmental affairs manager for Herman Miller, Inc., noted that the environmental practices should be a priority at every level of the supply chain, and that the goal of the Environmental Conference was to raise awareness of the challenges and rewards of corporate sustainability.

Herman Miller, a world leader in interior furnishings and contract office furniture, has received several awards for their environmental facilities, product design and practices. Over the past decade their commitment to the environment has been recognized and awarded by the Environmental Protection Agency, the American Institute of Architects, and the U.S. Green Building Council.
