Cascade Engineering Acoustics Group Named Clean Corporate Citizen by State of Michigan

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan, September 12, 2003 – The Cascade Engineering Acoustics Group today received a Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Clean Corporate Citizen Award at a ceremony attended by state Rep. Glenn Steil, state Sen. Bill Hardiman, and executives from Ford Motor Company.

Given annually, the Clean Corporate Citizen award is a voluntary program recognizing environmental stewardship. Companies must demonstrate consistent environmental compliance, adoption of pollution prevention programs and use of an effective environmental-management system. Through this voluntary program, the Cascade Engineering Acoustics Group effectively merged its environmental efforts with daily business operations, including:
  • Recycling material in parts/assemblies that are internal scrap
  • Recycling of aerosol cans
  • Recycling of high intensity light bulbs
  • Plan for storm water pollution prevention

“We’re honored that our Acoustic Group has received this recognition for its environmental efforts,” Mike Valz, president of Cascade Engineering said. “Our approach to running clean, efficient plants isn’t just good for the environment – it’s also good business and has helped Cascade Engineering become a cost-competitive supplier to the automotive, furniture and industrial markets.”

As a Clean Corporate Citizen, the Acoustics Group is now eligible for benefits under the state air quality, surface water, ground water and underground storage tank permitting programs. Cascade Engineering can also qualify for expedited permit approval. According to the DEQ, facilities that obtain Clean Corporate Citizen status can be relied upon to carry out their environmental protection responsibilities without rigorous oversight.

Cascade Engineering has earned International Standards Organization 14001 certification, meeting the voluntary international standard for environmental management systems, and participates in the Michigan Business Pollution Prevention Partnership. The company is also active in the use of green energy from both wind power and solar radiation, and said that they continue to learn more about the ecological, financial and social aspects of sustainability. The award marks the second time Cascade Engineering has been named a Clean Corporate Citizen, most recently in 2002 for their Corporate Safety and Automotive Trim Solutions Groups.
