Cascade Engineering Recognizes Suppliers for Role in Growth, Profitability

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan, September 30, 2002 – Leading plastics firm Cascade Engineering, Inc. today announced that it will host its annual Supplier Day on October 3 to forge stronger relationships with its suppliers and honor the progress the Company has made through partnering within its supply chain.

During this workshop, the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based plastics manufacturer will present several awards in recognition of its suppliers' role in fueling the Company's growth. Cascade said its success can be attributed, in part, to strong improvements made by its supplier base in advanced technologies and innovations.

During this economic downturn, Cascade Engineering has prospered despite the difficult conditions inherent in serving the automotive and durable goods markets,” said Mike Valz, Cascade president and chief operating officer. “This success is, in part, due to the relationships we have cultivated with our supplier base. As such, it is important to recognize the contribution of our suppliers to our continued success and to celebrate the shared values, such as a commitment to sustainability, that make such partnerships possible.”

The event is scheduled for 9 a.m., October 3, at the Grand Rapids Airport Hilton in Grand Rapids, and will feature a number of speakers as well as an awards ceremony.

Suppliers have also played a key role in working with Cascade Engineering to ensure quality and develop new products. As Cascade Engineering is QS 9000/9001 certified, the Company is taking steps to work with suppliers to initiate quality audits, annual surveys and quarterly reviews. In addition, the Company has adopted an Internet-based inventory system that provides real-time information to better manage the supply chain.

The Company will issue awards to its suppliers at the event in the categories of cost management, innovation, lean manufacturing, performance, quality, service and value-engineered/value-added.

Cascade Engineering said that its strategy for supply chain management has allowed the company to reduce total costs, as well as improve efficiency, increase quality and improve delivery. Suppliers have worked with the Company to align the supply chain to meet the needs of Cascade Engineering's customers. For example, Grand Rapids-based SoundTech, Inc., a supplier to the Company's Acoustic Group, recently relocated closer to Cascade Engineering as to reduce costs and increase efficiency of the supply chain.

“While many billion dollar companies host events of this type, a special 'Supplier Day' is unique for a company our size,” said Giles Wright, director of supply chain management for Cascade Engineering. “However, the relationship with our suppliers is also unique. Because of our shared values, we have been able to create 'win-win' relationships that mutually benefit both Cascade Engineering as well as the supplier.”
