| Keller Hosts National Leaders For Goodwill Celebration in Milwaukee White House correspondent Helen Thomas & Basketball legend Bill Russell among guests at June 24 event MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin, June 19, 2002 – Local President & CEO of Cascade Engineering, Fred Keller, will be honored among national business leaders and will host an event at Goodwill Industries International’s (GII) annual Delegate Assembly. Goodwill kicks off its 21st Century Initiative of helping 20 million people enter the workforce by the year 2020 by lighting 100 birthday candles in honor of its Centennial anniversary. Keller will host the evening’s festivities and be recognized as GII’s “2002 Large Employer of the Year,” awarded to Cascade for leadership in workforce development in Grand Rapids. “Cascade's initiative and innovation in hiring individuals with barriers to employment is certainly well known and respected throughout the state,” said Tina Hartley, President of Goodwill Industries of Greater Grand Rapids. “The Goodwill/Cascade partnership goes well beyond the direct work of hiring and maintaining Goodwill graduates (Cascade has hired 220 Goodwill participants). Both organizations are active in multiple community efforts to impact poverty and workforce development in Kent County. Fred does more than just talk – he acts and then gets others to act as well. It has been an honor to be a part of those efforts.” This year’s Delegate Assembly brings together corporate executives in a forum designed to align business objectives with government and community-based employment and training resources. This national strategy session will explore ways to develop a skilled, reliable workforce in the face of an anticipated labor shortage and today’s unreliable economy. Businesses such as Bank of America and CVS Pharmacy will join national leaders including he Honorable Wade Horn, Assistant Secretary for Children & Families, U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Basketball legend Bill Russell, Jeff Joerres, President & CEO of Manpower, Inc., and longtime White House correspondent Helen Thomas in attendance. ”Goodwill Industries of Greater Grand Rapids is fully committed to the international initiative,” said Hartley. “The need continues to grow and Goodwill needs to be ready and able to meet that need. Our business partners are essential in making the goal a reality.” For more information about the history of Goodwill, the 21st Century Initiative, or the 2002 Delegate Assembly agenda, please visit the newsroom at www.goodwill.org or log onto your local Goodwill’s web site at www.goodwillgr.org.
