2002 Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame Laureates Announced

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan, April 3, 2002 – Five West Michigan business leaders will be inducted into the Junior Achievement West Michigan Business Hall of Fame. This years honorees include:
  • Roger A. Andersen – President (Retired), Peninsular Investment Co.
  • Fred P. Keller – Chairman and CEO, Cascade Engineering
  • John C. Kennedy – President and CEO, AutoCam Corporation
  • Donald W. Maine – Chancellor Emeritus, Davenport University
  • Rita Williams – CEO, Gill Industries

The Junior Achievement West Michigan Business Hall of Fame was created in 1989 to honor past and present members of the business sector who serve as an inspiration to the entire community. Inductees must meet the following criteria:

  • Possess a record of outstanding business accomplishments
  • Be recognized by his or her profession for significant contributions
  • Adhere to high moral and ethical principles
  • Demonstrate civic responsibility and community involvement
  • Serve as a role model for others, especially the youth of our community
  • Have worked in the West Michigan area

The awards ceremony inducting new laureates and honoring past laureates takes place annually. This year’s awards will be presented at a black-tie dinner on May 8, 2002 in the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel’s Ambassador Ballroom. Huntington National Bank will serve as the event’s Title Sponsor for a second year. “Huntington is proud to sponsor this prestigious event honoring West Michigan’s finest in the business community, “ said Jim Dunlap, Huntington’s Regional President, who is also chairing the event. “Their leadership sets a high standard and serves as an excellent example for our Junior Achievement participants.” Portraits of the Laureates will be added to the permanent West Michigan Business Hall of Fame display, which is housed at the VanAndel Arena. The Hall of Fame now numbers 51 Laureates.

The Selection Committee chaired by Diana Sieger, Grand Rapids Foundation included James S. Brady, Partner, Miller, Johnson, Snell & Cummiskey; Doyle Hayes, Pyper Products; Mike Lloyd, The Grand Rapids Press; David G. Frey, Bank One; Birgit Klohs, The Right Place Program; James Zawacki, GR Spring & Stamping Co.; Jeff Padnos, Louis Padnos Iron & Metal and Jim Fisher, Shoreline Recycling & Supply, Inc.

Since 1995, the event has been a partnership between Junior Achievement of the Michigan Great Lakes, Inc. and Junior Achievement of the West Michigan Lake Shore, Inc. to include the Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Holland and Grand Haven areas. Sponsorship opportunities and tickets to the event are still available. Gold Tables are $2,500 and include invitations to the Laureate Reception, Silver Tables are $2,000, Bronze Tables are $1,600 and individual seats are $200 each.
