Cascade Engineering One Of Three Founding Partners In
Michigan For EPA’S Green Power Partnership
Steelcase and Ford Motor Co. Are Others;
Companies Pledge To Acquire Significant Amounts of Renewable
Energy To Meet Their Power Needs
GRAND
RAPIDS, Michigan – Cascade Engineering has agreed to be a
founding partner in the Green Power Partnership, an
initiative of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to
encourage companies to increase their use of renewable
energy sources.
Cascade Engineering is one of three Michigan companies who
have signed letters of intent as founding partners in the
program. The others are Steelcase and Ford Motor Company.
As part of the company’s commitment, Cascade Engineering in
the coming year has agreed to acquire 2.3 million kilowatt
hours of renewable energy resources to help meet the
company’s energy needs. That represents 4 percent of the
company’s total energy use over the past 12 months.
Eligible energy sources include solar, wind, geothermal,
biogas, biomass and low-impact hydro.
“We are very glad to exercise leadership in encouraging the
business community to consider renewable energy sources,”
said Mike Valz, president and chief operating officer of
Cascade Engineering. “These energy sources hold great
promise, and we look forward to the growth of the program as
more companies reach the same conclusion.”
“The key reason we became a founding partner is that by
buying renewable energy we can help reduce our dependence on
fossil fuels,” said Fred P. Keller, chairman and CEO of
Cascade Engineering. “Being a Founding Partner is another
way to demonstrate that what's good for people and the
environment is good business.”
Richard VanderVeen, founder of the wind power firm Bay
Windpower, has assisted the EPA in coordinating the
recruitment of Michigan companies.
“Cascade Engineering has once again exercised great
leadership by signing on as a founding partner of the Green
Power Partnership,” VanderVeen said. “Because Cascade
Engineering is so well respected – as are the other founding
partners, Steelcase and Ford – I expect we will see many
more companies joining this effort.”
